July 5

Today was not a very picture-worthy day... I only left the house to take Riley to swim class and Jonah to the pediatrician. Riley started swim class a few weeks ago, and the level that he was in just wasn't the right fit for him. I switched him to a different class during today's lesson, so we'll see in the coming weeks if that makes a difference.

Now Jonah... he just turned 16 months old over the weekend and still isn't talking. I talked with our pediatrician about it at his 15 month visit, and we decided to get his hearing tested and schedule an Early Intervention evaluation. His hearing test was Friday and it didn't go well. He had been congested for 2 days before the tests and the audiologist saw right away that his left eardrum wasn't moving properly. She said that those two things together could be signs that he's developing an ear infection. So right after the audiologist I took him to the pediatrician to get his ears checked - no ear infection. Fast forward to today - his congestion wasn't any better and he felt just a little warm all weekend. So I took him back to the pedi this afternoon, still no ear infection. However, the PA that I saw today said that he thought Jonah might have allergies and that there was a lot of fluid behind his left eardrum (which hopefully is the reason why he didn't pass the hearing tests). So tomorrow I'll be scheduling an appointment with an ENT to get another opinion on his ears.

OK, so I do have a few pictures of our patio. I forget where I left off with this story, but we discovered that the reason that our  patio had buckled was poor drainage. Seth is regrading the soil foundation of the patio so it will drain away from the house, and is providing an exit for the rainwater/snowfall through the foundations of the walls around the patio. He was using this very cool drill this afternoon to make the hole in the foundation walls.

The current state of our patio:

Our new drainage hole:

By the looks of things, I think we'll have another drainage hole here tomorrow afternoon.

The very cool tamping machine that Seth uses to compact the soil (exciting to 3 year olds and their 35 year old mothers alike).
